We encourage children to take on a variety of responsibilities around the school. This year, the school is creating a Young Leaders Common Room for a group of pupils. To secure funding for this project, the children met with the Executive Head Teacher and presented their proposals to Governors. They worked collaboratively to decide how the room would be used, what it would include, and who would benefit from it, giving them real experience in planning, decision-making, and leadership.
The School Council at Yorkley Primary School is made up of two representatives from each year group, from Year 1 to Year 6. They are appointed to listen, discuss, share their views, and, when necessary, vote on actions that need to be taken.
This group of young leaders play an active role in school life. They help organise charity events throughout the year, represent their class during democratic conversations, and encourage their peers to be aware of, respect, and care for the school environment. They also carry out school tours for visitors and help allocate funding, following discussions with SLT and Governors.
Mrs Wood (Deputy Executive Head) meets regularly with the School Council to ensure their voice is heard and considered throughout the year, making sure pupils have a real influence on school decisions.
Our Eco Club thinks about recycling, saving energy, conserving water, sustainability, biodiversity and litter. They meet each month with Miss Breese and often present an Action Plan to the Executive Head Teacher or lead whole school assemblies to their peers.
