Welcome to Yorkley Primary School

Hello and welcome to the website for Yorkley Primary School, part of The Forest of Dean Community Schools Federation, linked with Parkend Primary School working together to make our community stronger.

Set in the beautiful Forest of Dean, Yorkley is a friendly, popular and inclusive school of around 175  children. Ofsted rated us ‘Good’ overall, with three areas judged ‘Outstanding’, reflecting our high standards and our commitment to ensuring every child thrives.

Our dedicated staff create a caring, inspiring environment where children feel happy, confident and motivated to learn. We are proud of our bespoke curriculum, enriched by a wide range of enhancements including biking, Forest School experiences, our Playpod provision, and additional opportunities in art, music and sport. These experiences support creativity, wellbeing and resilience and allow every child to discover and develop their individual talents.

At Yorkley, our children are the most important element of our school. They are at the heart of everything we do — they belong here, have a strong voice, and help drive our school forward. Working closely together as a school community, we ensure pupils leave us well prepared for the future, both academically and personally.

I warmly invite you to visit and see why parents describe Yorkley as “simply superb – a happy, ambitious school where children love learning and strive to excel.”

Mrs Kate Burke, Executive Head

"Pupils are very proud of their school. It is easy to see why. It is a caring, cohesive community where everyone has pupils’ best interests at heart. They feel completely safe. Pupils look after one another. Pupils behave beautifully, their happiness and confidence are clear to see in their smiles. By putting pupils’ needs at the heart of their experience, the school provides well for all."  - Ofsted

String Quartet Performance

We were pleased to welcome an amazing String Quartet called 'Vita' from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. The children engaged well with the performance and could recall key musical terminology such as rhythm and pitch. They were introduced to the Violin, Viola and Cello, where they could recall that a smaller string instrument plays a higher pitch and a larger string instrument plays a lower pitch. The children learnt about how the musical instruments were created and how horse hair is used for the bow of a violin.

We would like to say a huge thank you to Lindsay, Corinna and the lovely ladies in the String Quartet who have showcased their amazing talent and inspired the next generation of musicians.

Kayaking at Mallards Pike

Mrs Chapman and four of our junior children had a fantastic time kayaking at Mallards Pike. Everyone learnt new skills and really challenged themselves, joining in with all the games and getting to know pupils from other local schools. They all ended up very wet but that was all part of the fun!
