At Yorkley, we believe every child should have the opportunity to develop skills that support their wellbeing, build confidence, and prepare them for life beyond the classroom. Our cycling programme is one of the many enrichment opportunities we offer to help pupils grow, thrive, and discover new strengths.
Delivered by a qualified instructor from Follow My Lead, cycling sessions are available for children from EYFS through to Year 6, with activities carefully matched to each age and stage of development. Our youngest pupils begin by developing balance, coordination, and the confidence to learn to ride, while older children build their skills through more advanced cycling techniques, road safety awareness, and bike maintenance.
Throughout the programme, pupils learn:
- Balance, coordination, and control.
- The skills and confidence needed to ride independently.
- How to stay safe when cycling, including road awareness and understanding the rules of the road.
- How to identify potential hazards and make safe decisions.
- Simple bike maintenance, helping them understand how to keep their bikes safe and ready to ride.
Cycling is about so much more than riding a bike. It encourages children to challenge themselves, persevere, develop resilience, and enjoy being active. It supports both physical and mental wellbeing, helping pupils to build confidence, independence, and a sense of achievement.
This programme reflects our vision of providing every child with meaningful opportunities to flourish. By offering enriching experiences beyond the classroom, we help pupils develop valuable life skills, discover new interests, and create lasting memories.
