History

At Yorkley Primary school we believe that history helps to provide a sense of local identity and an understanding of their place in wider society.

The history curriculum is supported by our five drivers:
• Active adventure
• Building me
• Communication
• Creativity
• Belonging

History should inspire pupils’ curiosity to know more about the past. Teaching should equip pupils to ask a range of questions, think critically, weigh evidence, scrutinize arguments, and develop perspectives and opinions. To fuel this curiosity and sense of belonging, we believe experiencing fieldwork and the opportunity to meet a range of visitors enables us to take advantage of the rich history that surrounds us.

The history curriculum at Yorkley Primary school enables children to develop knowledge and skills that are transferable to other curriculum areas and is used to promote spiritual, moral, social, and cultural development as well as developing their communication skills. We want the children to understand what history is and gain an awareness of the present in the context of the past through a secure interpretation of historical chronology and knowledge.
